Firstly, for those that don’t know me my name is Johnny, from Edinburgh, Scotland. This blog is the story of my cycling adventures in S.E. Asia & New Zealand and is in place to allow friends and family to follow my progress.
This was all brought on by going to a charity event – Night of Adventure – in Edinburgh earlier in the summer where a number of adventurers talked about their travels around the world. The evening was hosted by Alastair Humphreys, who it turns out is a bit of a motivational speaker as well as being a supremely well travelled person himself. It must have had an effect, as the next day I went out and bought a touring bike. Initially I spent a week touring round the west highlands visiting friends & family along the way. I think I always knew that this was a warm up to something a bit bigger….
I plan to leave early November 2012 cycling from Thailand, through Laos to Vietnam, returning to Thailand via Cambodia in January 2013. From there, I will fly onto New Zealand to tour for a further 2 ½ months. I am not on a fixed itinerary as I like to be able to change my plans as and when it suits. The only part that is fixed is the flights.
